I wish I had time to do an Oppo Review of it, but I was so busy taking in the country that I wasn’t able to snap enough photos. That said though, here’s my basic thoughts on the tippy little SUV.

It’s fantastic! I had a silver 2012 Suzuki Jimny for a day. And although it was spartan; sporting a 1.5L 4cyl and options such as A/C, power windows and 4x4, I still loved it. The little thing had just enough power to boot around, and was an absolute blast off road. I wish I could’ve brought it home with me, even though it’s dwarfed by my Xterra in both size and power, it’s honestly an absolute blast to drive. The only real downside is how it’s geared. It runs at about 3000rpm at 100km/h in 5th. But hey, it’s not really a vehicle for highway cruising. Regardless, once the earliest once hit 25 years old, you can bet your ass I’ll be bringing one into Canada.

First of that generation are already eligible for import, because it’s 15 years and not 25 years like in the US, and that generation Jimny was launched in 98.

I think Quebec is 25 years, or not at all.

I was thisclose to going to Cuba once in college. Then 2 days before we left, the Cuban government revoked our permission. That was 10 years ago, and I’m still super bummed about it. The point of my story is that I’m jelly. Very jelly.

I know a place that’s offering these things, starting at €2500. Some are 15+ years old.

This generation of Jimny is on my want-to-import list as well! :D

That being said, if you were to ever go for it, import a Jimny Wide - that’s the model with the larger engine. The normal Jimny in Japan is kei class, so it’s only got 660ccs of engine under the hood! :)
